河出書房の市民文庫、カヴァーなしの表紙装幀がかっこいい、昭和28年の初版もの！「日の出はまだ。空と海とのけじめがない。」のはじまりにぐっときて借りてきた。「ただ海には布の皺ほどの折目があるのみだ。」と続く。
原文は「The sun had not yet risen. The sea was indistinguishable from the sky, except that the sea was slightly creased as if a cloth had wrinkles in it. 」。
みすずのはこう。「陽はまだ昇らなかった。縮緬皺を寄せたかのようなさざ波が海面にひろがるほかは、空と海の区別はつかなかった。」
